Gifted and Talented Provision at UCTC
What do we mean by Gifted and Talented?

In every school and college there are students with a range of abilities. Gifted and Talented is the term applied to those young people who are achieving, or who have the potential to achieve, at a level significantly beyond the rest of their peer group. This refers to the upper end of the ability range in most classes/cohorts.
It is important to recognise that gifted and talented students are individuals with their own strengths and weaknesses. A student may be very able in one area, but may appear on the SEN (Special Educational Needs) register in recognition of behavioural, social, physical/sensory or specific learning difficulties.
Maximising Potential
Providing for the gifted and talented at UCTC takes many forms.
Many subject areas support their Gifted and Talented students by taking them on trips and visits as well as providing workshops. Schemes of work also identify extra activities for the gifted and talented in that subject area. Furthermore, extra subjects such as Critical Thinking are also offered to gifted and talented students.
National and locally there are many opportunities that are available to both parents and students and a list of these activities can be found on this area of our website.
We endeavour to update our gifted and talented register at least twice a year and keep parents informed. If you have not had confirmation of this yet you will have by the end of this academic year.
I do hope that you find this area of our website helpful. If you require any further information then please contact either Mrs Boyd-Leslie or Mr. Buschle who is our Lead Teacher for Gifted and Talented.
